The Gunnedah Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) Future 2040 sets out the 20-year vision and road map for the future land use planning in the Shire. Future 2040 articulates four (4) key themes, eleven (11) planning priorities and fifty (50) actions. It identifies the special character and values that are to be preserved and how change will be managed into the future, and seeks to align future land use planning with the outcomes identified in the Gunnedah Community Strategic Plan 2017-2027. The document also gives effect to the New England North West Regional Plan 2036 by implementing those goals, directions, and actions relevant to our Shire, at a local level. It will also assist to shape how the development controls evolve over time to meet the community's needs.

Council would like to make you aware that as of 1 December 2021 changes will occur to Environment Protection zone within the Gunnedah Local Environmental Plan. As of 1 December a reference to an Environment Protection zone E1, E2, E3 or E4 in a document should be taken to be a reference to a Conservation zone C1, C2, C3 or C4. Now Featured on VendorPanel – EOI’s for Preferred Supplier Panels for the delivery of maintenance and repair for Air Conditioning Services, Building and Carpentry Services and Plumbing Services. Gunnedah Shire Council is inviting trade qualified and licensed suppliers to participate on the panels. Once established, suppliers on the panel will be consulted for future opportunities over a two year period, with the opportunity to extend for a further year.

I want to read books in my native language, or I am learning another language. Can I find books in other languages at the library?
Yes. The library is able to borrow books in over 50 different languages from the State Library of NSW. Books are available in all reading levels and categories, from picture and junior books to adult fiction and non-fiction.
Yes. The library welcomes all visitors to the shire. Come in and read a book, newspaper or one of our magazines. Computers are available to use, and you can print, photocopy or scan your documents.
The library has a JP service for the witnessing of documents and certifying photocopies. It is best to phone the library in advance on (02) 6740 2190 to ensure that a JP will be available when required.
Yes. You can undertake paper or computer-based exams at the library, just ring and organise ahead of time.
