Nominations are now open for the 2026 Australia Day Awards.
Gunnedah Shire Council is proud to celebrate the achievements and contributions of its citizens in the past 12 months through the Australia Day Awards. These awards recognise and honour outstanding individuals and groups in the Gunnedah Shire. The Australia Day Awards are significant as they acknowledge the strength, resilience, and capabilities of our community. Let’s celebrate our achievers and volunteers.
Award categories:
- Citizen of the Year (21 and over)
- Young Citizen of the Year (20 and under)
- Ossie & Beryl Campbell Memorial Volunteer of the Year
- Community and Cultural Achievement
- Max & Mikie Maas Good Neighbour Award
- Sports Person or Sports Team of the Year
- Ivan Towns Memorial Award - Coach of the Year

It is customary for the nominator(s) to organise a group for the Australia Day function in honour of their nominee. Award recipients will be announced and presented at this prestigious event.
