Privacy Statement

Gunnedah Shire Council (Council) takes the privacy of our customers seriously and is committed to protecting your personal and health information.

Council is required to comply with the Information Protection Principles (IPPs) in the Privacy and Personal Information Act 1998 (PPIPA) and the Health Privacy Principles (HPPs) in the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIPA). These laws promote the protection of personal and health information in New South Wales (NSW).

Our Privacy Management Plan sets out how we comply with the principles of the PPIPA and the HRIPA.

Collection of Personal Information  

Gunnedah Shire Counci will only collect personal information directly from you, or your authorised agent. The information you provide to us will be used and disclosed for Council purposes, or a directly related purpose, unless you consent to another use or disclosure, in emergencies or as otherwise required or authorised by law. Council websites do not use cookies to collect personal information.

If you do not wish to provide personal information to us, we may be unable to provide you with the services required. In accordance with the Privacy Act you can make application for us to consider suppressing your personal information from a public register held by us.

Under the PPIP Act, you have the right to access your personal information held by Council, without excessive delay or expense. You also have the right to have your personal information corrected in certain circumstances (e.g. if it is inaccurate). Should you wish to access or correct your personal information, please make a written request and email council@infogunnedah.com.au.


Statistical Information and Cookies  

Council websites use ‘cookies’ to help personalise a user’s online experience. Cookies are small pieces of text data that a web server can store on, and later retrieve from, a user's computer. When you visit the Gunnedah Shire Councils website to read or download information, additional information about your use may be collected for statistical purposes. This information is used to maintain, secure and improve our website, and to enhance your experience when using it. Please note that we do not match any data collected with any personal information, which means website users browse our website anonymously. We do not attempt to identify individual users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the logs.
