Art Exhibition: Arctic Inspirations and more

26 February 2018

The Gunnedah Printmakers’ will star alongside renowned Sydney-based printmakers Bernhardine Mueller and Margaret Vickers at an upcoming art exhibition: Arctic Inspirations and more.

Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery will showcase the collaborative exhibition from 9 March until 8 April.

Bernhardine Mueller has conducted numerous workshops in Gunnedah and has developed quite the following through her contemporary printmaking practices. Arctic Inspirations and more is a chance for Mueller and Vickers to express their love and respect for their environments.

“Both artists draw on different surrounds from the sprawling urban landscapes, to bushy outback retreats and adventures to Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands,” Arts and Cultural Officer Lauren Mackley said.

“Both artists are often left with the quandary – ‘how do we protect and preserve our land for future generations?’ – and use this as a motivator for their creative processes.”

Throughout the exhibition, both galleries will be adorned with prints of a variety of styles, subject matters and from artists around NSW. All artists will be exhibiting works that draw inspiration from different places, practices and principles, however unified in their love for the art of printmaking.

The exhibition will showcase handmade printed books, miniature prints, etching/aquatint, relief and multi-plate collagraphs, as well as a variety of other printmaking techniques and the exciting works of local artists.

There is also an opportunity to attend an artist talk with Margaret Vickers as she will be sharing the inspirations that drive her creative processes and share how the landscape has directly influenced her artmaking practices. Bernhardine Mueller will present a two-day intensive workshop providing an individual approach for all printmakers, focusing on safe printmaking techniques with collagraphs, including colour roll ups, a la poupe (colour) and viscosity printing. The workshop is designed for beginners as well as more established artists.

Any artists who are wishing to contribute their prints to the exhibition are required to deliver framed works to the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery by 5:00pm Monday, 5 March, 2018. The exhibition will be officially opened by Shirley Urquhart at 6.00pm on Friday, 9 March, 2018.
