Library Programs

The library also offers a range of programs for the community. Contact the library for more information on any of these programs.

Book Buddies
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 10.30 – 11.30am
Book Buddies is designed for children from birth to school-age and aims to introduce children to language at an early age, engaging them for life. Participants will benefit from the socialisation and structured environment. Sessions might include several stories, rhymes, rhythm and simple craft.

1,000 Books Before School
1,000 Books Before School can be started at any time during the year and children will progress at their own rate. The intention is to make reading a fun and enjoyable activity, as children mark on the tally sheet each book that is read to them. Sheets can be handed in and participants will receive certificates at a public presentation as they pass the 50, 100, 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 book milestones. Books read while attending Book Buddies can also be counted on the tally sheet.

1,000 Books After School
1,000 Books After School is designed to extend upon the Before School program to encourage children to continue reading. Children mark off books that they read to reach milestones and receive certificates. School readers can also be counted. The After School program can also be started independent of the Before School program.

Bookends Literacy Assist
Tuesday & Thursday, 3.00pm – 5.00pm; Friday, 3.00pm – 4.00pm
Another option to build literacy skills is Bookends Literacy Assist, a reading program where participants ‘borrow’ a senior from our community and read to them, one-on-one. Sessions run for 20 minutes apiece and books can be selected from the library shelves, or brought along. Participants will gain confidence in reading aloud and cross-generational relationships will be built. Seniors can also be borrowed for one-off reading sessions to prepare for special events or speech days.
