Library Spotlight: Thursday, 28 July

Spotlight:  National Science Week

August brings National Science Week, so head down to the library to see what we are doing to celebrate – displays of books in all fields of science, a new seek and find competition for the young and young at heart, and some fascinating Make it! sessions on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month!

And for those of you still working on your Superhero Seek and Find answer sheets – you have until the end of the month to return your entry to the library and be in the running for a goodie bag prize.

There’ll also be a new science-themed Seek and Find challenge for August. Ask at the desk for your entry form.

Spotlight:  Science collection

Science takes many forms, and the library has them all covered! From the Antarctic to zoology, from dinosaurs to volcanoes, from fauna to minerals – just ask the friendly library staff for help in finding the right book for your needs!

We also have magazines such as National Geographic and Australian Geographic available to be borrowed.

Spotlight:  New books

The winter months are perfect for cooking, and the library has plenty of nice new colourful books to inspire you!

Among the new titles are Michelle Fagone’s Air Fryer Essentials: Low Carb.  With “170 + recipes for Australian and NZ kitchens” there’s sure to be something to suit every taste!  Easy-to-follow directions, lots of yummy photos, nutritional value information, and unusual recipes such as roasted radishes as well as more traditional fare.

Chrissy Teigen has written Cravings All Togethe: Recipes to Love. The recipes are more complex but the pictures equally enticing!

Abi Glencross and Sadhbh Moore have written Sustainable Kitchen: Projects, Tips and Advice to Shop, Cook and Eat in a More Eco-conscious Way.  Although the book contains some recipes, the main topics are sustainable food, kitchen, cleaning materials, and getting involved with the community.

Also in a wintery theme is the delightful Michael Morpurgo book The Snowman, “a new story inspired by the Christmas classic by Raymond Briggs with colour illustrations by Robin Shaw”.

Readers of fiction will enjoy The Mayfair Bookshop, a novel of Nancy Mitford by Eliza Knight.  Graham Brown has written a Clive Cussler NUMA file thriller: Dark Vecto,  “a pirate’s hoard, a vanished treasure, a global catastrophe beckons …”   It’s true Clive Cussler fare!

Australian author Sasha Wasley has written A Caravan like a Canary which has been described as “a beautifully told road trip story … The perfect holiday read”.

See you soon at the library!
