Aussie Day Bake Off garners National Media Attention

Gunnedah has long been known for their Australia Day Celebrations. This year, the inaugural ‘Aussie Day Bake Off’ was a huge local success and garnered national media coverage that resulted in an exciting phone call.

Winner of the ‘men’s division’ Colin Formann from Gunnedah Shire Council was contacted by producers of ‘The Great Australian Bake Off’ to ask if he would like to put his skills to the test on the reality TV show.

Mr Formann was delighted by the approach, however declined the offer, due to the fact that the cake was “the first and only thing he has ever baked”. However, he did supply the show with names of some of the other winners of the ‘Aussie Day Bake Off’ so that other local bakers may pursue the opportunity should they wish.

The ‘Aussie Day Bake Off’ Inaugural event saw around 20 wonderful creations and raised $1200 for the G.S. Kidd bus fund and the Gunnedah Community Scholarship Fund.

“It’s really good news that Gunnedah’s Australia Day Celebrations are being recognised. I hope we see some local talent on the show as a result. It’s a great advertisement for Gunnedah and our community” Gunnedah’s Australia Day Working Group Chair Colleen Fuller said.
